2015 Vitality World Triathlon London open for entries

Published:

The 2015 Vitality World Triathlon London, taking place on the 30th and 31st May in Hyde Park, today opened for general entries, having already sold over 3,000 entries during an exclusive Priority Booking Window.

Event organisers, British Triathlon in association with Lagardere Unlimited, are urging individuals interested in taking part to sign up as soon as possible, as historically the event sells out extremely fast and there are only a limited amount of entries left.

Widely regarded as the UK’s most prestigious triathlon, the Vitality World Triathlon London is now in its sixth year and will once again welcome over 5,000 participants of all abilities, the world’s leading paratriathletes as well as the world’s best triathletes, to take part in the ITU World Triathlon Series races. The distances on offer include Super Sprint (400m swim, 10k bike, 2.5k run), Sprint (750m swim, 20k bike, 5k run), Olympic (1.5k swim, 40km bike, 10k run) and the Team Relay option.

To help give entrants a taste of what they can expect at the event, organisers have teamed up with British triathletes Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee to create an inspirational short video which sees the brothers talk about their experiences of the event down the years.

Marisol Cassado, president of the ITU, said: “The Vitality World Triathlon London holds special significance in the Series. Not only is it one of the longest-standing host within the World Triathlon Series, the course became a part of history as the site of the 2012 London Olympics. Since then, the race has continued to make history with top-notch mass participation and elite competition.”

Speaking on behalf of the title sponsor of the event, Neville Koopowitz, CEO, Vitality for PruHealth and PruProtect commented:  “We are delighted to kick off the third year of our participation in the World Triathlon London, which represents the sport at its highest level.  It embodies all we stand for and supports our aim of using the power of sport to help people set and achieve new fitness goals.  This increasingly popular and high profile event in the triathlon calendar provides a great opportunity for participants of all levels to take part.”

Jon Ridgeon, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events, said: "The Vitality World Triathlon London, will be one of the highlights of the triathlon calendar in 2015. Entries are now on sale to the general public and with the opportunity to compete alongside the world's best triathletes and paratriathletes in Hyde Park, it's an event not to be missed. The event is suitable for participants of all abilities, whether you are a first-timer or experienced age-grouper looking to follow in the footsteps of the elite stars of our sport."

Simon Morton, Director of Major Events and International Relations at UK Sport, said: “This is the sixth year UK Sport has supported the hosting of the ITU World Triathlon Series in London and once again it offers a wonderful opportunity for thousands of people to watch or participate in world class
sport staged in a world famous city. Through our National Lottery funded Gold Event Series we have put in place what has been recognised as the most complete post-Olympic and Paralympic Games major events legacy programme of any host nation. The combination of outstanding venues, technical know-how, passionate fans and thousands of experienced volunteers mean the UK is recognised as one of the best places in the world to stage international sporting events like the ITU World Triathlon Series in Hyde Park.”
