I want to do Ironman Wales the year I turn 40

Busy mum of 2 Anna sets her sights on Ironman Wales

Mum of 2 Anna is very new to the world of triathlon, at 36 Anna entered her first race and has been hooked ever since.  A Swimming background and taking part in Half Marathons led her to getting her own Road bike, and entering a triathlon seemed to be the next natural challenge.
Anna’s first triathlon was the Cardiff Tri a Tri which she really enjoyed and was thrilled to get second fastest women! Not bad for her first race. She then entered the Cardiff Sprint Triathlon and placed top 10! But its not only the shorter distances she is keen on. Anna has also taken part in the Long Course weekend in Tenby.

But how does a busy mum of two fit the training in?
With regards to training, it is hard to find time to fit it all in. I have 2 daughters aged 9 and 6 so I am busy with them but they enjoy coming along to support events. I tend to train once or twice a week with my swimming club, get out on my bike at least once a week and run whenever I can fit it in (running is my weak point!). Leading up to events I obviously increase the training but try and keep up a level of training all winter too so I’m not starting from scratch in the spring/summer. I also have a job as a dog walker so when I’m not spending time with my family or training, I’m walking dogs. It’s nice as my daughters are into exercise and they are keen swimmers and enjoy going out on bike rides. I know they love coming along to support either me or my husband taking part in events and I very much hope it will inspire them to take up more exercise as they get older. My eldest daughter, already wants to do the swim in Tenby as soon as she’s old enough!

So this season sees Anna return to the long course in Tenby, she has stepped up a level at the Cardiff triathlon and has entered the standard distance, and hopes to do the Gower Standard distance in September. Anna’s Goal is to get to a position where she is able to do Ironman Wales in the year she turns 40! But until then she will continue to enjoy training and doing events with her friends.
