British Triathlon Support International Coaching
02nd February 2010
British Triathlon has welcomed nine international delegates onto a British Triathlon Level 2 Coaching Course last week at the National Performance Centre in Loughborough.

The British Triathlon Level 2 course supported by UK Sport international funding had a truly global flavour with candidates arriving from Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, St Kitts & Nevis, Malta, South Africa and Slovenia.
Delegates received expert tuition from the Workforce Development team and British Triathlon Coach Education tutors, developing an understanding of safe, ethical, and effective triathlon coaching.
This is not the first time international coaches have attended a British Triathlon coaching course, with a number of coaches obtaining British Triathlon Coaching Qualifications through the ITU Scholarship Coaching Programme. British Triathlon’s Coaching Qualifications are part of the UK Coaching Certificate Scheme and accredited by the International Triathlon Union.
British Triathlon’s President, Dr Sarah Springman OBE commented: “British Triathlon is incredibly proud of its coaching programme. To host the first all international delegate British Triathlon Level 2 Coaching Course was a fantastic opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with our international colleagues. Through our qualified Coach Education tutors, we hope to have enabled the delegates with the skills and abilities to plan, deliver and evaluate triathlon sessions and facilitated the promotion and growth of the sport within their home country. We also learnt a great deal from them about coaching in their countries.”
Emma Swanwick from South Africa commented:”I really enjoyed the course; the interaction with the tutors has been good bringing some new ideas into the activities we need to look at within our home nations. The staff at British Triathlon have been really helpful and we have made some nice links. We will take away some good experiences and information that we can start imparting to some of our coaches back in South Africa”.
Isabelle Zarb from Malta added: “I found the course very interesting and very informative; I come from a swimming background and although I was a triathlete myself, have never coached triathlon. The course has helped put the three disciplines together, and build the rapport with the coaches to establish the networks [needed for the future].
Shastri Sankar from Trinidad and Tobago also found the course enlightening adding: “It has given me a broader view of triathlon and greater interest in the sport. The information was extremely helpful on how to deal with athletes from all walks of life from beginner to senior. The course was simple and to the point, with excellent tutors”.
