Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson appointed to House of Lords

British Triathlon has joined the sporting community, in celebrating the appointment of Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson to the House of Lords.

The record-breaking athlete is Britain’s most successful Paralympian, winning 11 Paralympic championships, and setting 30 world records in her career. In her new role she will serve as a non-political crossbencher, with a specialty in disability and sporting issues within the House of Lords.

Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson is no stranger to triathlon having been guest of honour at the 2007 British Triathlon Awards Dinner and having subsequently taken up the triathlon challenge; her debut was featured in our membership magazine trinews.

British Triathlon Chief Executive, Zara Hyde Peters commented:

“As well as an outstanding Paralympian and great role model for sport, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson has played an active part in many of the organisations that shape sport in this country.

“Dame Tanni has always been ready for new challenges, as shown by her willingness to embark on her first triathlon at Eton in 2008.

“This is great recognition of a fine sportsperson."
