Welsh Athletes Win Medals at British Duathlon Championships

Our athletes made a good start to the season, seeing them compete in Portugal in the Quarteira ETU Cup and at the British Duathlon Championships in Windsor.
At the ETU Cup Bronwen Owen finished 6th place with a gutsy effort after crashing on the bike , where she lost considerable time and a potential podium position. Zoe Thomas had her best ETU Cup result finishing 10th in the Senior Women’s event and Morgan Davies finished 14th.

In Windsor Great Park at the British Duathlon Champs we had a number of athletes who were stepping up an age group, where the experience and personal best performance was their aim, which they all did, whilst Abbie Williams, Female Youth and Liam Lloyd, Senior Male, both were at the front of their races from the start and pushing hard to challenge their fellow competitors. Both exited T2 in contention and battled to take 3rd place and Bronze medals in the British Champs.

In the ParaDuathlon Russ White  (Torfaen Tri Club) was 1st PT3, Ben Jones (L’boro) 3rd – results are still being verified will be available on www.britishtrishtriathlon.org

After the race Abbie said ‘That was really hard, but I’m happy to have finished third, I just didn’t have anything left to give’. Liam Lloyd was pleased with his result and had to say ‘ I tried to break away towards the end of the bike to get a gap for the run, but it didn’t work out. I’m pretty happy with the result as the boys in front (Richard Horton and Callum Johnston) are both quality athletes'.

Rich Brady, Welsh Performance Development Coach commented ‘It was good to see athletes from all over Wales performing well domestically and in Europe. All the athletes gave their best today, for Russ, Ben, Liam, Abbie that put them in the medals, for the others they are a step closer to the seasons goals’.
