Rich Brady reports on the British Elite Duathlon Championships
Report by Rich Brady
The British Elite Duathlon Championships, held at Rockingham Motorway Speedway on Sunday 30th March, saw some excellent results from our Welsh athletes.
Deri Stewart started his racing season with an impressive Silver Medal in the Junior Men's event. Deri put himself in medal winning contention right from the start of the races, posting the 2nd fastest run time of the junior boys. Riding strong to stay with the main group on the bike, Deri headed out of T2 with a focus to medal and he achieved a great result in 2nd place. Deri said ‘That was a tough race, but I’m really pleased with my performance and couldn’t have given any more’.
Liam Bradley was the next best National Talent Academy junior, in 12th place.
In the Senior men’s event, Morgan Davies and Liam LLoyd lead the Welsh charge, posting impressive spits of 15:12 and 15:17 respectively for the 4.9km first run and making a lead bike group of 8 athletes. The lead bike group stayed clear of the main chase group, with Liam Lloyd leading them in and out of T2. The second run saw Morgan and Liam battle hard to take 7th and 8th place in their first senior championships.
National Talent Academy Junior female athletes also raced well in the First Super Series event of the year, with Ffion-Haf Harrett just missing out on a podium place in 4th place and Rhiannon Middleton finishing 5th.
