Glamorgan delivers next crop of GB Age-Groupers

Published:

Last weekend saw the second qualification opportunity for the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2016 ETU Sprint Distance Duathlon European Championships.

The picturesque Welsh countryside was the backdrop to some interesting battles on Sunday, as duathletes fought it out on Llandow Race Circuit in a bid to claim the top spot.

A clear winner, Joe Beech of Onit Sports cut the tape with the quickest time of the day, clocking 1:09:37 to claim gold in the M25-29. Carl Avery followed in 1:10:55, the Morpeth Harrier taking the M30-34 title. Third quickest was Gareth Thomas, who took the M35-39 win in 1:11:31.

With an impressive overall victory margin of nearly nine minutes, Fenella Langridge was clearly the fastest female of the day, crossing the line in 1:17:58. The 23-year-old topped the W20-24 age-group, with her nearest rival 25 minutes adrift. Sophie Moore (W35-39) and Rebecca Hopkins (W30-34) put in good performances to finish second and third overall, with 1:26:36 and 1:27:49 respectively.

With Clumber Park having decided the first qualifiers, the final opportunity to claim a spot on the Great Britain Age-Group Team for the 2016 event will be at Anglian Water Duathlon this weekend.

The event in Glamorgan was organised by Aim2Tri and also acted as the Welsh Duathlon Championships.
