Published:

The 2015 Triathlon England – National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships took place this weekend at the Grafman Middle Distance Triathlon providing members with their fourth opportunity of the season to win a National title.

The overall event was won by Michael Birchmore (25-29) of Velotive bringing home the 450 plus triathletes competing in the Nice Tri event in a time of 03:59.40. Andy Hamilton (30-34) finished in second place with a time of 04:00.56, with Tom Vickery (25-29) of Erdinger Alkoholfrei completing the overall positions with a third place finish in 04:03.28.

Michael Birchmore commented on his first place: “I really enjoyed the race, it was a bit wet and windy out on the bike but feels great to win. Really well organised event, everything was made easy.”

In the women’s overall positions, Lucy Charles (20-24) of Hoddesdon Tri Club crossed the line first overall in a winning time of 04:37.47. In second place it was Lucie Custance (35-39) of Team Triathlon Europe who finished in 04:38.17, with Juliet Vickery (50-54) of Cambridge Triathlon Club in third with 04:42.42.

Lucy Charles commented on her first place finish: “The race went just as I planned; gain time in the swim, hold out on the bike and kill myself on the run. I could see second placed woman gaining on me in the run, so I dug deep and ran my heart out. This was the first time I have competed in the Grafman, it was a brilliant race and, well organised.”
