Report and results from the Inter-Regional Championships 5th & 6th September

The British U20 Festival took place at Mallory Park, Leicestershire on Sat 5th and 6th September 2015. Wales had 27 athletes competing across the age groups from TriStar 2 to Junior. All races where open water swims and draft legal, on a technical bike course. TriStar and youth athletes used restricted gears,which is a new intervention to further improve the skill developed of our young athletes.
The day started with the Tristars 2, where Osian Perrin (Anglesey) posting the fastest bike and run splits to place 3rd. The rest of the TriStar athletes all performed well, giving their all, for the team to finish the Inter Regional Championships in 12th place.
In the youth girls Abbie Williams exited the water in 4th place, but lost time in T1 placing her in the chase group on the bike. She then closed a 1min 20sec gap to run in to 7th place. After the race Abbie said 'If I hadn't messed up my transition up could have been on the podium, it's frustrating but at least I know i am fast enough and T1 is fixable'.
Rhiannon Middleton (Cardiff) made a good return to Super Series racing after a long period rehabilitating from injury with a 5th place finish with Ffion-Haf Harrett close behind in 8th place.
Rich Brady, Welsh Performance Development Coach, said after the racing ' It was great to see so many Welsh athletes competing today and to see the 'tan y ddrag' in their racing. Osian Perrin really impressed today and is definitely one to watch for the future, along with Abbie Williams once she sorts out her transitions'.
