Welsh Triathlon Regional and National Academy athletes deliver at the GB National Championships at TRI Liverpool

Some Welsh Triathlon’s Regional and Talent Squad athletes delivered great performances at the GB National Championships at TRI Liverpool on a wet and very windy Sunday, on the 10th of Aug.

Zoe Thomas lead the Welsh charge with a fine display, exiting the water after the 750m swim, near the front of the race she immediately pushed hard at the start of the 20km cycle to make sure that she was riding in the main group alongside American Gwen Jorgenson, who currently leads the World Triathlon Series. Being amongst the World Best Female athlete did not phase Zoe as she continued to be a driving force in her bike group. On the 5km run Zoe gave everything to finish 8th overall and 7th in the British Championships. Ffion-Haf Harrett also had an excellent swim, exiting the water near the front of the race, but didn’t quite make it in to the Jorgensen Group. Ffion-Haf then went on to finish the run strongly with a position of 15th overall and 4th Junior. Rhiannon Middleton was unfortunate to crash on the first lap of the bike, but got back up to continue and finished with a position of 32nd overall and 11th Junior.

In the Youth Girls race Issy Morris from the Welsh Triathlon South Regional Development Academy had an excellent race finishing 6th, with Awen Lewis 21st and Issy Davies 22nd.

Unfortunately due to the severity of the weather conditions the men’s race was cancelled for safety reasons, meaning that Liam Lloyd, Iestyn Harrett, Alex Matchett, Deri Stewart, Ieuan Cooke and Ross Hosking didn’t get to race.

Congratulations to all our talented young athletes!
