Wales’ talented youngsters compete in Hyde Park

On Saturday 30th May 13 young Welsh athletes took to the water in Hyde Park for the British Youth and Junior Super Series Aquathlon, the second race of the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series. The event kicked off at 8am with the youth boys hosting the largest Welsh contingent. Sam Johnson (Llandudno) was the first Welsh athlete out of the water, closely followed by Rhys Jones (Cardiff) and Tomos Nesham (Pontypridd) with the rest following thick and fast. On the run Rhys quickly got into his running moving finishing in a respectable 12th place. Behind Rhys was Tomos in 18th and Sam Johnson in 23rd place.

Starting 5 minutes later, the race wave was the Youth girls where Issy Morris (Chrickhowell) exited the swim with the lead swimmers with Abbie Williams (Pembrokeshire) not far behind. Abbie ran strong and moved through the field to take 7th place, her best GB Super Series result so far. Issy finished not far behind in 11th place.

Wales’ final two young athletes, Ross Hosking (Mold) and David Flanigan (Penarth), competed in the Junior boys event. Ross lead out the swim with David not far behind in 5th position. Unfortunately Ross had to pull out due to an injury early in the run, but David battled on to finish in 12th place.
