Welsh Triathlon report on the first North Regional Academy and TriStars training day of 2015

Report written by Roy Healey

Saturday 14th March welcomed the first Regional Academy and Tristar training day of 2015 at Marsh Tracks in Rhyl, North Wales.

It was an opportunity for athletes from clubs across North and Mid Wales to get together and take part in a skills training day, delivered by some of Welsh Triathlons best coaches from Cerist, Conwy and Ruthin TriStars, as well as two specially invited coaches from Titan Triathlon in the Midlands.

The day started off with all the athletes being put through a technical run session looking at developing good run technique to improve economy and efficiency, this was followed by a run session focussing on the importance of pacing. After a brief rest the athletes were then put through a technically challenging transition session, aimed at developing key skills including; mounting and dismounting, movement with the bike, cornering and braking and more. On conclusion of the transition skills session the athletes broke off and were put through their paces via a group riding session where athletes were again taught the important skills of riding in a group, focusing on drafting, awareness, reaction, gearing and more.

The training session concluded with a number of age group Duathlon races which were well received and contested highly by all.

Welsh Triathlon would like to thank all of the athletes who attended and we look forward to seeing you all again in due course. We would also like to thank the coaching team who made the day a successful one with their contributions.
