Llandudno Sea Triathlon – Sunday 29th June 2014
The 6th Ffit Conwy Llandudno Sea Triathlon took place last Sunday 29th June hosting the Welsh Triathlon National Championships. The Ffit Conwy Llandudno Sea Triathlon attracts athletes of all levels, with many club and GB age group athletes competing in North Wales year after year.
Glorious sunshine and a balmy 17.1 degrees sea temperature made for some great racing conditions, and the event saw a huge amount of support from spectators, residents and local communities. The hub of the event was on the Promenade where spectators could watch the swim in the sea, the exciting spectacle in the transition area and the athletes crossing the finish line.
The standard distance race included a 1500m open water swim followed by a 36km (4 laps) cycle around the Great Orme and a 10km run along the Victorian Promenade.
Samuel Webster of Cardiff Tri Club came second in 02:10:46 and also claimed the overall Welsh Triathlon National Champion title. Christopher Silver won gold in the Senior Male category, with Arthur Connell winning Silver and Phil Lynes securing third prize. Eloise Crowley of Team Tri Training Harder dominated the women’s field and took the winning title in a time of 02:26:24 winning the Senior Women’s category with Suzanna Heppenstall of Denbighshire Triathlon Club securing Silver.
Tim Burnett of Wrecsam Tri Club won Gold in the Male Veteran category, with Geoffrey Ingram winning Silver and David Astins of Pembrokeshire Triathlon club securing Bronze.
Dean Hardie of Celtic Tri Club won Gold in the Male Super Veteran category and Berwyn Jones Padarn Tri Club won the Male Vintage Veteran category.
