Report on Regional Academy Open Day in Buckley

Published:

Roy Healey reports on another successful open day in Buckley, North Wales on 16th March 2014

Report written by Roy Healey (North Regional Development Academy head coach)

Once again the weather in North Wales was fantastic for another great training day.

The day was attended by 20 athletes from across North and Mid Wales consisting of Juniors, Youths, and selected T2 and T3 athletes, and was a progression from our open training day at Marsh Tracks Rhyl during half term.

With progression in mind the run and bike training was very much technique based, once again focussing strongly on running form, transition drills, and bike skills including; running with the bike, slalom drills, scooting drills, mounts, dismounts, finishing with group riding focussing on cornering drills.

After short break the athletes were put through their paces in the pool with an endurance and technique set, during the set the athletes were put through a testing set of 3 x 200m time trials which produced some great results but just as importantly got the athletes to understand the value of pacing.

The day was concluded with a debrief with all the athletes and parents. The day would not have run as smoothly without the help of the North Wales club coaches; Steve Rickard Ruthin TriStars, Suzanne Heppenstall RuthinTriStars, Darren Stone Ruthin TriStars Alex Holt Conwy TriStars, and Chris Wallace Cadence TriStars.
