NTPCW Athletes Shine in Oxford

Published:

It was a successful day for the 14 National Triathlon Performance Centre Wales (NTPCW) athletes who competed in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Modern Biathlon Championships in Oxford on Saturday 9th March. Points are scored based on times from a 1500m run and 200m swim.

For the women, Jas Cooper took the overall win and Jaz Greaves made a return to racing with 3rd place. Lili Jones ensured that Cardiff Met secured overall team silver. And Lucy Wilkins secured individual PBs over both events.

The Cardiff University men’s team took a clean sweep of the podium, with just 8 points between them. Dan Galloway won the overall men’s race, breaking the previous run record in the process running 3:49 and setting an overall BUCS Biathlon record. Michael Gar was second and Matt Shipley broke the swim record in a time of 1:52 to take third overall. All three broke the previous points record set in 2023.

There were PBs for Dom Coy, Harry Butterworth and Deri McCluskey who finished 5th, 10th and 11th overall to take home team bronze. There were also several personal best performances for Hugo Jinks (13th) Morgan Watts (15th) and Charles Walker (24th). Malachi Cashmore, on return from injury, produced a strong swim to round off the day.
