Which Qualification Is Right For Me?

Triathlon England is currently offering a whole host of qualifications and development opportunities. Read on to learn more about the courses and identify which one is best suited to you!

The Triathlon England coach education courses for the 2014/15 period are just about to be released, and together with the current availability of Leadership in Running Fitness, CTC Ride Leaders, Swim Smooth and Paratriathlon workshops and qualifications, this article aims to help you identify which course is for you and fellow club members.

The first important point, is to apply for any of the listed courses, you must be a member of Triathlon England. Click here to join Triathlon England.

  • Have a favourite discipline, but not sure about doing an entire coach education qualification? These courses are for you:

Leadership in Running Fitness - Sunday 7th September - Brighton College - £110.00. This workshop is designed for Triathlon England volunteers of any level to learn how to organise and lead running based activities in their club. The course is run in partnership with Run England and all attendees will receive insurance from Run England to lead run sessions. To apply for this course click here.

CTC Ride Leaders - Saturday 16th August - Shorne Woods Country Park - £110.00.  This workshop is designed for Triathlon England volunteers of any level to learn how to organise and lead cycling activities on the road for their club.   • New to coaching and/or the sport of triathlon, and want to support your club, and assist a more senior qualified triathlon coach? The level 1 coach education course is for you:

Level 1 Award in Coaching Triathlon - click here for all dates. The course will focus on the key coaching skills - how to demonstrate, how to observe and how to feedback. You will also be introduced to the Triathlon disciplines (swim/bike/run) and the basic technical skills to be coached. You will also cover athlete safety/welfare, session preparation and evaluation.

  • Already completed the level 1, or have some experience of coaching and of triathlon as a participant? The level 2 coach education course could be for you:

Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Triathlon - click here for all dates. Building on the "how to skills" from level 1, you will start by learning how to plan sesisons to develop technique and fitness. This will include basic sports science, an introduction to periodisation, how to manipulate training variables to improve fitness. You will develop your technical understanding of the disciplines; transition and skills, observing and analysing swim technique and key elements of bike fit. You will also cover more detail in athlete safety and welfare, open water swimming, drug awareness and injury prevention.

  • Already a Triathlon England qualified coach, but want to add something on to your knowledge and qualification? These courses are for you:

Swim Smooth - Teaching the Freestyle Stroke to Beginners - Saturday 6th September - Surrey Sports Park - £55.00. This workshop is designed for Triathlon England coaches of any level to learn more about the most efficient way to teach the freestyle stroke to complete beginners. To apply for this course click here.

Coaching Paratriathlon Workshop - Saturday 18th October - Wellington College - £100.00. This workshop is designed for Triathlon England coaches of any level to learn more about coaching paratriathletes. The course is specifically aimed at coaches operating in a local community club setting. The course will introduce coaches to new concepts of coaching paratriathletes and also how their club can make simple adaptations to open up their club to paratriathletes. To apply for this course click here.
