Round One - Vale of Glamorgan Duathlon

A cold but sunny day greeted athletes arriving for the inaugural running of this event. The event would include a fast 5.6km run around the racing circuit at Llandow Track and its environs for the first run. At the sound of the horn the athletes went off like whippets. Very soon they began to stretch out.

Gareth Thomas, Jonathon Philips and David Vaughan came into T1 for a lightning fast transition. They were followed by Lewys Winfield Young and James Hockin.  Helen Russell came into transition 21:49 along with Carys Griffiths in the same time. The question was who would have the strongest bike?

 The athletes were swiftly making their way out onto the 26km bike. This would take them round the picturesque Vale of Glamorgan. The course would be rolling with some deceiving climbs.

After a strong bike Richard Wilder came into transition followed on his heels by James Hockins, David Vaughan and Lewys Winfield Young. In the ladies race the stronger cyclists had a changed the top 3 although Helen Russell came in first followed by Hilary Hillhouse and Carys Griffiths.

They made their way out onto the racing circuit for 2 laps to finish the race with a 2.6km run.

David Vaughan established a lead on the run finishing in 1:10:05, followed by James Hockins in 2^nd, Lewys Winfield Young in 3^rd with Richard Wilder taking 4^th. .

In the ladies race Helen Russell continued to lead on the run and finished in a time of 1:23:17, followed by Carys Griffiths and Hilary Hillhouse.
