Bala, Gwynedd, North Wales, is situated in South Snowdonia on the shores of Llyn Tegid the largest fresh water lake in Wales. The Middle Distance Triathlon takes place in and around the lakeside town. Llyn Tegid is 4 miles (6.4k) long and 0.75 miles (1.3k) wide. It is owned and managed by the Snowdonia National Park Authority and is without question one of the most scenic Triathlons in the country. The lake is adjacent to the Penllyn Leisure Centre,which is the race registration point. Which has ample car parking, toilet and changing facilities. The setting is excellent with plenty of space for transition and parking and the local rugby club offers additional shower,changing and parking facilities. The swim is in Llyn Tegid, which is approximately 10 miles in circumference (wetsuits compulsory). The bike section is a challenging out and back course, while the run is undulating following the road around the lake.
