On Sunday 21st July All or Nothing Events hosted not only the British Aquathlon Championships but the Triathlon Cymru Aquathlon championships in Barry, South Wales.
On a warm morning, with a 7am start, over 160 athletes took part in the 750m sea swim followed by a 5km run along the coastline. Athletes from all over the UK descended on Barry Island for what turned out to be a fantastic morning of racing.
Triathlon Cymru were delighted to have Martin Kitchener, Chair of Welsh Triathlon and British Triathlon board member, and Catherine Roberts CEO of Welsh Triathlon not only compete in the event but had a quick change to award the medals to the athletes.
In the open category Harry Jones was our first-place athlete to cross the finish line in 26:50:8, followed by Albie Howe in 30:07:5 and Rhys Harries in 3rd place in 30:10:2
In the female category Hana Blake was in first place with 29:46:6 followed shortly by Hollie Lewis in 30:12:9 and Emily Fell taking 3rd place in 31:14:0
The event also welcomed 22 of the Tim Tri Cymru athletes of 2024 in which they represented Wales – for some it was their first time representing their country at a multisport event. You can read more about the team here.
Welsh Athletes who came first place in their age group were also given a golden ticket – this ticket gives them access to race at the British Aquathlon championships representing Wales in 2025 – venue to be announced later this year.
Thank you to Simon Webb and the team at All or Nothing Events and all the volunteers for putting on another great race experience and hosting the British and Welsh Championships for 2024.
We would also like to thank Technical officials – Phil Kethro, Tom Roberts and Nigel Townsend for their expertise in supporting the event.
