The answer to some of those questions you may have always wondered about

What does Triathlon mean?

An event where an athlete swims, cycles and then runs consecutively without a break. The word is of Greek origin, from τρεῖς or treis (three) and ἆθλος or athlos (competition).

What order is a Triathlon?

Swim, Bike, Run

What Triathlon equipment do I need?

You can complete a triathlon with the very basics of equipment. As a base you will need a swim costume/trunk or tri-suit, wetsuit, goggles bike, helmet and trainers. A helmet is an essential you will not be allowed to compete in a Triathlon unless you are wearing a helmet, safety first! A tri-suit is recommended as it a multi-use piece of equipment that you will wear through the whole of the triathlon, swim, bike and run. A wetsuit may not be essential depending on the type of triathlon, if you are doing a triathlon with a pool based swim this will not be needed, so check what type of Triathlon you are planning on doing before buying one. If there is equipment that you need and you are a wlesh Traithlin member you can get upto 40% off HUUB full priced products.

What to wear under wetsuit?

Usually a tri-suit, however a swimming costume/bathers will suffice maybe having to put on additional kit in transition.

What triathlon age group am I in?

You will compete against other athletes within your age-band category. The age-band category that you fall into depends on your age on December 31st in the year of competition. Example: If you are 45 on 29 December 2016 then for the whole of 2016 you will compete in the 45-49 age-group.
