Thursday 28th April 2022 marked 100 days until the World Triathlon Para Series taking place in Swansea this August.
In celebration of this Welsh Triathlon and our partners, hosted a GO TRI saw 200 participants from 3 schools, Ysgol Pen-Y- Bryn, Ysgol Gellionen and Ysgol Tirdeunaw take part in a GO TRI event at Penlan Leisure Centre in Swansea.
Participants started with a fun filled swim session in the pool, where they had the choice of doing a few lengths or having a walk around the pool. This was then followed by a technical bike route where participants had the choice of going around on a scooter or bicycle. After this it was a quick dash to the run route and lastly the finish line where participants were given a medal and congratulated on the completion of the event. The finish line was filled with smiles from all participants with many asking, “can I do it again?”.
Welsh Triathlon has a huge part to play in delivering a legacy programme of GO TRI events in and around Swansea, which in the first year alone aims to engage 8,000 school children aged 8 to 16. This programme aims to change the attitude towards disabled people in sport and activity, as well as make every child aware of and able to enjoy Swim, Bike, & Run activity.
Head of Development Gareth Evans said:
“it’s great to get our school engagement off the ground. Today’s delivery shows how effective a tool GO TRI and TAC activity can be, to use the facilities we did to deliver a quality triathlon experience for 240 children just goes to show what can be done with effective partnerships. We look forward to continuing the engagement across the schools over the coming months and providing more positive triathlon experiences.”
