Llanelli, once again, marks the start of the Welsh Triathlon Super Series

Published:

The Welsh Super Series kicked off with a bang on Sunday as athletes and spectators alike gathered in Llanelli for a day of thrilling competition.

The sun was shining as crowds gathered to watch the spectacle, hosted by Healthy Life Activities as part of Llanelli's Multi Sport Festival week.

Over 450 participants competed during the day, with Liam Lloyd emerging as the overall winner of the race and Beth Jones taking the top spot in the female race for AGILIS Llanelli Sprint Triathlon, stage 1 of the Super Series, also winning the Sprint Distance Welsh National Championship Title as well.

Welsh Super Series Stage 1 podium winners

Olly Simon proved to be the fastest swimmer of the day, clocking in at 8 minutes and 38 seconds, closely followed by professional triathletes Liam and Finn Arentz. The trio led all the way to T2 with Liam Lloyd finishing the bike split in 37min 30second, with Liam ultimately finishing the 750m swim, 30km bike, and 5km run in an impressive time of 1 hour, 4 minutes and 12. 2min 30seconds behind Liam was Finn Arentz and Olly Simon gaining the 3rd place in a time of 1:08:02.

In the female race, Eloise Crowley took the lead out of the water with a time of 9 minutes and 38 seconds, closely followed by Cathryn Williams. Rachel Davies had the fastest bike split of the day at 44 minutes and 57 seconds, and Lucy Marland ran the quickest in 18 minutes and 23 seconds. However, Beth Jones' consistency won her the top spot with a total time of 1 hour, 19 minutes and 43 seconds, followed by Rachel Davies and Eloise in second and third place respectively.

Not only was it an exciting start to the Welsh Super Series, but it also doubled up as the Welsh National Championship.

For those who missed out on the action, the results will be available online by the end of the week, and the event will be televised on S4C on the 30th of June 2023 at 8:00pm.

The Series moves on to TATA Steelman on Sunday 21st May, and we can't wait to see what's in store for the rest of the competition.

Also a special mention must go to the organisers, Noelwyn and Sharon Daniel of Healthy Life Activities for winning The Outstanding Contribution to Triathlon in Wales, well deserved!
