Llanelli Multi-sport and Welsh Super Series to go ahead as planned.

Published:

The Llanelli Multi-Sport Events scheduled for May 11th to May 13th will go ahead as planned. The water quality test results received have confirmed that the water quality in the North Dock is excellent and that the algae detected at the beginning of April was not the Toxic Blue/Green. All precautions had to be taken by Carmarthenshire County Council to ensure public health was guaranteed which meant that signs were erected to inform the public not to swim or bathe in the water.

Action Taken

The Event Organiser and Carmarthenshire County Council officers have worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to ensure all steps were taken to allow the Llanelli Multi-Sport Festival to go ahead as planned. Various water samples have been taken over the last 2-3 weeks and with the results from NRW being confirmed as excellent, as well as independent Swim Safety tests being confirmed as Green, the only uncertainty now relates to the water temperature before the start of each wave.

With the warm weather over the weekend increasing water temperature to 17.5 degrees, all looks promising. However, with colder weather due over the weekend, water temperature readings will be taken 60minutes prior to each event and any changes will be communicated to athletes prior to the race commencing.

For those Youth and Junior competitors taking part in the British Elite race, you will be contacted directly by the BTF performance team.

For the Llanelli Sprint and the Welsh Super Series, If the water temperature drops below 12 degrees, the Swim element shall be cancelled as per ITU guidelines, and the event will follow a Duathlon format.
