Racing is heating up domestically and abroad

Another weekend of races in tough conditions provided some great performances from Welsh athletes and those training in the National Performance Centre Wales (NTPCW)

Domestically the British Super Series (BSS) Hetton multi-race format event returned once again providing excellent racing in hot conditions. Junior and Senior athletes raced together in individual heats and finals followed by Youth A and Youth B in the same format.

Notable performances on the day included Tilly Anema (NTPCW) who got her first-ever British Super Series podium with a 3rd place finish. Eva Edwards (WTAP) also had her best ever domestic performance with 5th. Ellie White (NTPCW) continues her consistent delivery with a 6th and from the boy’s 4th for Freddie Webb (NTPCW), 5th place for Dominic Coy (WTPP & NTPCW) and youth athlete Liam Edwards with a fantastic 8th place.

Commonwealth Games hopeful Rhys Jones took part in the second leg of the British Paratriathlon Super Series in Eton Dorney, Rhys and his guide came 2nd, just 1s of the win! The series offers Para triathletes from across Britain with dedicated racing opportunities and the chance to compete against other Para triathletes on a domestic front throughout the year.

Further afield in Tiszaujvaros Hungary there was a five-day triathlon festival, featuring spectacular senior and junior races where several British athletes raced. 2018 CWG team member Olivia Mathias (LTPC) finished 1st with most in the tank when it came to the final, recording a 00:09:48 swim and 00:17:22 run which gave her the edge over France’s Audrey Merle to take the tape and win gold. Ollie Turner (NTPCW) also raced to finish 50th overall.

Welsh Triathletes were not just limited to triathlon events, in Estonia, Osian Perrin (WTPP) had his first opportunity to wear a GB kit in the European 5000m U20 championships, finishing 5th overall. Read the full report HERE.
