Staff update

Published:

I have some news regarding the staff at Welsh Triathlon which should not cause any further disruption to your triathlon lives but will impact on faces and voices of those who you can communicate with at Welsh Triathlon.

In order to protect jobs into the future and ensure that when all triathlon activity is up and running again we are fully staffed and able to respond, Welsh Triathlon has made the decision to furlough members of the Development Team for an initial four week period, under the Governments Job Retention Scheme.

This means that as from Monday 20th April, Gareth Evans, Amy Jenner and Stephanie Makuvise will temporarily be unable to work for the organisation. When you are passionate about your job and the membership you work for, this is a really harsh position to be in and I would like to thank the three of them for ‘taking one for the triathlon team’.

When event income is unavailable to Welsh Triathlon (thank you to those Event Organisers who are also feeling the pain but responding in such a magnanimous way by refunding entry fees) we rely on membership income to support the staff salaries and programmes. To this end, and so we can get our staff back up and acting on your behalf as soon as possible, your continued membership fees remain really important to us in Wales.

As a membership organisation then, how will this impact on what we can provide for you when more than ever you are needing to be active and healthy. Well, for every team member furloughed I have team member eager to step in to support membership whether that is individuals, coaches, officials or clubs.

The 3 performance staff are currently working tirelessly to provide innovative training sessions, advice and virtual coaching to a cohort of athletes across the development and performance centre programme. However, they will over the next few months, be supporting the delivery of the engagement activity the development team have created and can’t now bring you themselves. So, keep connected and we hope you enjoy the content.

Our Programme Coordinator Verity and I will be providing you with a continued point of contact at our Virtual Office admin@welshtriathlon.org and will be happy to answer queries and help solve any issues as best we can.

Welsh Triathlon is our members - our volunteers, our event organisers, our coaches, our officials, our clubs - stay with us, stay safe and thank you.

We are so looking forward to hitting the floor running at the other side of COVID19!

Best Wishes
