Tîm Tri Cymru, the Welsh domestic Age Group racing team returns for the 2022 season.

Introduction

Welsh Triathlon will be taking a team of athletes to both the British National Sprint and Standard Championships for the 2022 season. This follows a successful introduction of the team at the British Sprint Championships in Nottingham in 2019.

Discussions are ongoing across the British Home Nations, and as of 2023, both Triathlon Scotland and Triathlon England will be joining Wales at the 2023 British Championships, but we want to continue the good work of 2019 and send our teams next year, painting the towns red…as it were.

How do I get involved?

In 2019, you needed to take part in the National Sprint Championship to qualify. However, disruption to the current domestic season has meant that we have had to change the way we select for the 2022 teams.
Firstly, to qualify, you need to be an active Welsh Triathlon member. If you are not a member, you can join by clicking here.

To represent Tîm Tri Cymru at The British Standard Distance Championships 2022:

You need to compete in the Welsh Triathlon Standard Distance Championships at the Porthcawl Standard Triathlon, on Sunday 8^th August 2021.

• Welsh Triathlon will look to select at least one member from each age category and gender.
• This position will go to the highest participant within their respective age category/gender.
• We will then run a drop-down list for those participants who wish to get involved.

*The British Standard Championships for 2022 has yet to be confirmed, but it will be located at a BTF Blue Carpet Event.

To represent Tîm Tri Cymru at The British Sprint Distance Championships 2022:

With No Sprint Championship taking place in Wales in the 2021 season following covid disruption, to qualify for this team, you will need to compete in either of the following events:

1. The Sandman Sprint Triathlon, September 18^th, 2021, Newborough Beach (Enter Here)
   or
2. SWYD Sprint Triathlon, October 3^rd, 2021, Barry Island. (Enter Here)
    

• Welsh Triathlon will look to select at least one member from each age category and gender.
• This position will go to the highest participant within their respective age category/gender.
• We will then run a drop-down list for those participants who wish to get involved.
• We will pick one person from each category/gender from each event. With one event located in the North and one in the South, this seems the fairest way for our members to access this opportunity in the absence of a stand-alone National Championship event.

*The British Sprint Championships for 2022 will take place at the Cardiff Triathlon on the 26^th of June 2022.

What will happen once selected?

Those of you selected via the above events will have your race entry to the 2022 British Championships partly subsidised by Welsh Triathlon.

Where possible (following negotiations with event facilitators), we may be able to open additional opportunities to compete.

Athletes will then be sent a link to purchase Tîm Tri Cymru clothing, consisting of a trisuit, t-shirt and running vest. Additional optional extras may be available. We ask that all those taking part in Tîm Tri Cymru purchase this kit bundle as all athletes will be expected to wear their Welsh colours. We will promote the kit bundle as soon as we have received the final designs and prices.

Welsh Triathlon will also be providing accommodation options and a team meal before the event day for those travelling. This was well received by those who took part in 2019 and felt that it brought the team together nicely, providing opportunities for those who usually compete against each other domestically to socialise and enjoy each other’s company pre-event.

We will be selecting the teams from the drop-down lists at the above races, but as mentioned above, we are in discussions to expand race numbers and provide this opportunity to as wide an audience as possible.
