Team getting back up to strength

Development Staff return

It is with absolute delight that I can announce the return of our furloughed development staff on a part-time basis to the Welsh Triathlon team – Gareth Evans, Amy Jenner, and Stephanie Makuvise are back!

It is because of the continued support of you, our members, that this is possible so soon and it means we will be ready to work with our event organisers and clubs to get Triathlon back up and running as restrictions continue to ease.

I would like to thank every member who has been able to continue membership with us over the tough last few months and we look forward to welcoming back those who needed to leave us temporarily.  Thanks also to everyone for continuing to engage with us on social media. We have had great feedback on the positive impact of our triathlon community, as you continue to find ways to train and socialise as individuals and virtual clubs through the crisis  #bestsportintheworld.

I want to recognise the work of the Welsh Triathlon Performance staff in their unstinting support provided to our pathway and NTPCW athletes during the crisis.  The feedback from athletes and parents has been very positive as we continue to manage expectations and provide updated advice and support. The extended Performance team has also stayed with us over the last few months putting in many unpaid hours to produce activities, make contact and provide advice and guidance to athletes whilst in lockdown and now as elite activity starts to return.  Thank you to Andy Lane, Jess Parry Williams, Jack Sanders, and Rhys Thomas. Welsh Triathlon is very grateful for your dedication and skilled support. Our tutors too Rich Brady, Mike Jones, Kylie Mansfield and Chris Wallace have also continued to work with us to provide coaching material for our education team – a big thank you!

The Welsh Sports Sector continues to work together to provide the Welsh Government with recommendations on how, when, and why sports activity needs to return. This collaborative approach between Sport National Governing Bodies, facility provider, Sport Wales, Welsh Sports Association, Disability Sport Wales, and other partners has seen us move gradually and responsibly towards a return of sport across Wales. I have been proud of the way individuals and clubs have remained responsible and considerate of our communities throughout the pandemic and urge you all to continue to remain patient so Triathlon can return with community support.

As further restrictions are eased triathlon will return and thanks to your support my team will be ready to deliver equitable and exciting activity throughout winter and into next year. As we have seen our members do, we will continue the innovation and adaptation of our sport to engage with our existing and expanding triathlon community. Do encourage all the new cyclists and runners out there to join triathlon as their next challenge!

Keep talking to us we are always interested in ideas and partnerships.

And a very BIG thank you.
