It was amazing to see so many Welsh tri suits setting the city of Cardiff alight on Sunday 26th June.

A great weekend of racing delivered by Always Aim High Events, saw various distance swims on Saturday followed by a full timetable of races on Sunday including Legend, Standard, Sprint and Super Sprint distances. The last race of the day was the much-anticipated British Championships and World Triathlon Age Group Qualifier which was also our Welsh National Sprint Distance Championship race.

And what better way to celebrate an event of this stature and calibre in the Welsh capital, than with an overall men’s winner and a full Welsh female podium in the 20-24 age category!

First across the line in a time of 1:00:07 was 17 year old Welsh Youth Deri McCluskey and that was after a mechanical issue on his bike meant he had to stop his race to repair his chain. While the GB 20-24 female podium was made up of Chloe Dooley in third, Georgia Huddlestone in second and Jasmine Cooper in first with a time of 1:08:24.

That ladies podium had to return to the stage to accept first, second and third in our Welsh Senior Female category. Jasmine Cooper became the new Welsh Female Senior Champion, with Georgia finishing only 4 seconds behind her.

Our eldest Welsh Champion, Sue Graves, crossed the line in an impressive 1:49:00 to take the Female Super Vintage Veteran title.

Deri McCluskey is the new Male Welsh Youth Champion with Thomas Belcher taking second in 1:10:21 and Johnathan Price in third.

In the Male Senior category, Joshua Jones took the Welsh title in a time of 1:01:19, closely followed by Oliver Webb in second and Tom Foster third.

In other Welsh Championship age groups, our elder statesmen put on a sterling performance in the Male Super Vintage Veteran category. Alex Heron is our new Welsh Champion with a time of 1:25:07, with Paul Belcher in second and Tony Clements in third.
