It was the Swakopmund African Cup in Namibia up next for NTPCW athletes Iestyn Harrett, Ollie Turner, Matthew Wright and Genta Uchida following their great performances in Nelson Mandela Bay last weekend. It was a massive come back for Matthew Wright after he unfortunately had to DNF last weekend due to GI issues, he secured himself 3rd place in Namibia! Ollie Turner came close behind him in 8th place. Iestyn Harrett was 11th across the finish line. And Genta Uchida got 31st.

Matthew Wright commented "Very happy to be back on only my second world triathlon podium after a rough DNF last week. Finally got to see how all the winter training measured up. Got into my second swim, bike breakaway, and to be able to deliver a great run after shows we are on the right track early in the year. Excited to get back to Cardiff and continue to build for the rest of the season."

Overall an incredible couple of weeks in South Africa for these boys. Congratulations on some fantastic performances!

Matt Shipley, Dominic Coy and Harry Butterworth

A bit closer to home, another three of our NTPCW athletes, Matt Shipley, Dominic Coy and Harry Butterworth, competed in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Modern Biathlon Championships. It was an incredibly successful weekend for these boys as their team came in 2nd place! They also had great performances individually with Matt Shipley coming in 3rd, Dom Coy coming in 9th, and Harry Butterworth coming in 16th.

When asked for a quote about the event, Matt Shipley said “I knew the run was going to be hard and I needed to do enough to stay in contention, but once it was finished I’d get to show my strength in the pool.”

Congratulations to all three of the boys on a great result!

Jasmine Greaves

Also, our NTPCW athlete Jasmine (Jaz) Greaves flew out to Portugal for the Quarteira European Cup this weekend. Despite the slightly choppy conditions, Jaz started off incredibly strong with her great performance in the swim. However, Jaz unfortunately could not carry on after lap 2 of the run and therefore finished with a DNF.

When asked about the race, Jaz said “Quarteira was such a stacked race I knew it was gonna be on from the gun. I was fortunate to have a strong swim, coming out 3rd. Then we had a group of 10 working on the bike. We managed to get 2mins on the group behind. Unfortunately I had to stop after lap 2 of the run. I have a bit of a niggle in my glute so decided to play it safe and not risk injuring myself for the rest of the season. Despite the end result being a DNF, still lots if positives to take heading into the rest of the season.”

It was still a fantastic performance from Jaz and we can’t wait to see what she achieves during the rest of event season. Well done Jaz!
