Welsh Super Series 2019 Launch

Published:

Welsh Triathlon is delighted to announce that the Welsh Triathlon Super Series will continue in 2019. Following from a very successful 2018 Series this year will include three new and exciting locations in Wales.

Stage 1 of the Series will kick off in Llanelli on the weekend of May 10-12th where the Llanelli Sprint Triathlon (Sun 12th) takes centre stage as part of the wider Multisport Festival. Stage 2 follows, on Sunday 19th May, as the series visits its first new location, the TATA Steelman in Port Talbot (also the Welsh National Standard Distance Championship).

Athletes are then given some recovery time until the final weekend of June where Stage 3 returns to Bala.   This year athletes will take on the new Bala Sprint Triathlon event on Sunday 30th June. The Welsh Super Series Sprint event forms part of a wider weekend which includes the Bala Standard Triathlon, Bala Team Relay and the ‘Gemau Cymru’ event.

Stage 4 is also in North Wales where the Snowman Standard Triathlon is the second new location of the 2019 series on the weekend of July 28th.  We then head south to Port Eynon for the Gower Standard Triathlon on Saturday 31st August.

Stage 6, the finale, will return to North Wales for the Sandman Sprint Triathlon on Anglesey, on Saturday 14th September, where last year we saw Alex Matchett complete his clean sweep by winning all six male events and Vicky Johnston capturing the female title.

Welsh Triathlon CEO Beverley Lewis stated

“The Welsh Super Series is a great concept and shows what can be achieved through collaboration with our partners. The location of the events and the variety of courses showcases Wales as a destination, as well as the versatility of our sport. We thank the local communities for embracing the events and supporting triathlon as a sport which involves everyone. It truly is an exciting time”.

Gareth Evans Event Officer for Welsh Triathlon stated

"We’ve taken on board feedback from the athletes and clubs from the previous season. There are larger periods of rest now between the events and we have maintained the balance of North and South Wales events. Each stage poses different challenges to the athletes and each setting and course looks to provide a great non-drafting race series experience. We are very fortunate in Wales to be able to host such events in great locations, supported by some fantastic event organisers.”

Tim Lloyd, director of the Sandman and Snowman events states

“The Welsh Super Series is a great showcase for triathlon in Wales and we are very excited to be involved again. The 2019 Snowman and Sandman Triathlons will perfectly support the aims of Welsh Triathlon by providing the very highest quality races in the UK for the athletes to challenge themselves to the max”
