Welsh Triathlon joins Active Young People, Swansea Council on Half Term Camp.

Published:

Tuesday 21st of February saw Welsh Triathlon team up with Active Young People, Swansea Council to deliver a go-tri at Penlan Leisure Centre as part of Swansea Half Term camp.

It was a full day of activity for the US Girls and Welsh Triathlon were there to deliver a duathlon session in the afternoon. The children taking part had a one hour fun event of run-bike-run on indoor static bikes and a run around the sports hall.

One of the participants said, “It was very enjoyable and it got my heart racing!”

The session came about following the success of Insport Para Festival that was held in Swansea in 2022 in support with Disability Sports Wales. Some of the girls had attended that session and with some experience of a duathlon decided they wanted to do it again.

The session saw 50 girls from the summer camp US GIRLS, participating in teams of 3 to run, bike and run. The only equipment that was needed were spin bikes and cones! The girls loved the event so much that they carried on cycling on the static bikes as the team were packing the rest of the equipment away.

Active Young People Officer, Jenna said: " It was lovely seeing the girls trying out new things. Many of them had not heard of a triathlon before let alone tried one, so it was brilliant to see them have a go and get stuck in. It’s safe to say then enjoyed, and would love to take part in another!”
