Welsh Triathlon is pleased to announce the 2019 Welsh Tristar Series.

Welsh Triathlon is pleased to announce the 2019 Welsh Tristar Series. 11 events across Wales which now includes three open water triathlons, as well as some of our most recognised children events in what is the biggest series to date.

The 2019 Welsh Tristar Series will commence with the Cerist Aquathlon, hosted on the 29th April by Cerist Triathlon club in Machynlleth and will finish in Mid-Wales, at the Aberystwyth Junior Triathlon on Saturday 31st August.

Between these events, we have a blend of open water triathlons, pool-based triathlons and aquathlons across the country, taking in venues such as Llanelli, Ruthin, Denbigh, Mold, Bala, Cardiff, Ystradgynlais and Tredegar.

To enter each event, participants will need to register directly with the respected event organisers through their websites. Further information on each of the events will also be available through the British Triathlon Events pages.

In order to compete in the series, participants will have their four highest scores from the selected events accumulated. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will then be awarded to participants within Tristar 1 (9-10yrs), Tristar 2 (11-12yrs) and Tristar 3 (13-14yrs). With only four events counting, the series also offers the athletes opportunities to use the events as methods of putting training methods and practices into action, without the overall outcome being the priority.

Registration

In a change to 2018, those individuals who wish to compete across the Tristar Series will need to pre-register with Welsh Triathlon. This will be a measure that will ease the pressure on event organisers in classifying children prior to their respective races and make the scoring process far easier post-race.

Clubs or Parents will need to register their children with Welsh Triathlon by emailing in a copy of their Welsh Triathlon Membership Card as well as their affiliated club to WT-Events@WelshTriathlon.org.  This can be done at any point within the season, but only events following receipt of the email will be included. (So, if you send the email on June 1st, your child’s results from April and May won’t be counted).

Scoring System

2019 also sees a new scoring system. Each discipline will now be scored differently, with the open water triathlons offering 1200 points, and all other events being 1000 points. Subsequent results are calculated by dividing the winning time by the recorded time for all other athletes and multiplying the result by total points (e.g. winner in 18mins gets 1000pts, 2nd place finishes in 18 minutes 36 seconds. 18 mins divided by 18 mins 36 seconds * 1000 = 968 and therefore the 2nd place finisher would receive 968 points for that race). This rewards and athletes performance as well as finishing positions.
