Over 80 competitors took part in the Aquathlon National Championships on the 22nd July at Parc Bryn Bach. The race consisted of a 750m swim followed by a 5km run of two laps around the lake. It was a very wet event with the rain pouring down from start to finish however that didn’t deter the competitors from battling for the National Championship title.
Tristan Tena Cumberland was leading in the open category following the swim with a time of 10 minutes 39 seconds, closely followed behind by Nicholas Thomas. In the female race Eloise Crowley was first to exit the water in 10 minutes 46 seconds with Fay O’Callaghan from the Junior age group on her heels
There was a change in the standings in the open category as the first competitor crossed the finish line. Michael Lewis completed his second lap and was first over the line in 28 minutes 21 seconds, narrowly edging in front of Junior Ifan Bowen who crossed over 9 seconds later. Matt Grantham was third overall in the open category coming in 28 minutes 51 seconds.
Eloise Crowley showed her dominance in the run by maintaining her lead in the female category, finishing her race in 32 minutes 59 seconds, over two minutes ahead of second place Naomi Davies. Third place in the female went to Emma Price-Stephens who crossed the finish line in 35:57.
A special thank you to NEWT triathlon club for organising the event and to their team of volunteers who came out to help to run the event despite the rain! Please see the National Champion Age Category winners below.
