Welsh Triathlon are inviting nominations from athletes wishing to be considered for the Commonwealth Games Relay Trial to be held in Aberavon on Wednesday 23rd August.
Nominations, including a race CV highlighting performances against the below criteria, should be sent to louisrichards@welshtriathlon.org and must be received by 5pm on Friday 28th July.
Selected athletes will be notified on or before 5pm on Tuesday 1st August.
Eligibility, Rules & Format
Any athletes nominating, must be eligible to represent Wales in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, in accordance with the full criteria that can be found in the CGW Handbook HERE
The event will be run under ITU draft-legal rules.
Race distances will be approximately 300m Swim, 6km Bike, 1.6km Run, with separate starts for the male and female fields.
Full details of the event map and venue will be confirmed in due course.
Performance Criteria
The maximum field size will be 10 athletes per gender, however the selection panel reserves the right to reduce this further to ensure that the trial event appropriately reflects the demands of the Mixed Team Relay in the Commonwealth Games.
Entry to the race will be determined at the sole discretion of the selection panel, however the following are the minimum entry standards for consideration:
1. One or more top-20 performances in 2017 British Senior elite triathlon events, over sprint-distance or shorter
- Blenheim, Cardiff, Eton
2. One or more top-10 performances in 2017 British Junior elite triathlon events, over sprint-distance or shorter
- National Performance Assessments, Llanelli, Blenheim, Leeds, Cardiff, Eton
3. Additional athletes who, in the sole opinion of the selection panel, can demonstrate the ability to ensure that the Relay Trial appropriately reflects the demands of the Commonwealth Games Mixed Team Relay
Notes:
1. Equivalent performances in international competition will be considered at Points 1 and 2.
2. When assessing the suitability of performance demonstrated at Points 1-3, the selection panel will consider the Quality of Field of the event
3. Where events are run as combined senior and junior fields, athletes must have finished in the top-25 of the overall standings
