About GOG Triathlon Club:

GOG Triathlon club are based in Llandudno, North Wales and have been established since November 2014. Taking their name from the Great Orme Goats, who inhabit the iconic Great Orme headland that overlooks Llandudno Bay, the acronym also gives a cheeky nod to our geographical location within Wales! The club has grown quickly since inception, to over 125 members and we have many coached and group training sessions that they can take part in. Coaches are the life blood of our club and we have worked hard to get funding through schemes such as the Community Chest, to train as many coaches as we can. At present we have twelve coaches at either Level 1 or Level 2 and we are lucky that they coaches are great, enthusiastic people who are really making a great club.

Club Sessions:

Monday evening – intermediate to advanced run (interval based session)

Wednesday evening – beginners run technique session

Thursday evening – beginners to intermediate run (interval based session)

Friday evening – turbo session for all abilities

Sunday mornings – club swim session, followed by a group ride, with a beginners ride every other Sunday.

We also have ad hoc transition training , hiring out the brilliant Marsh Tracks in Rhyl, which is a traffic free purpose built cycling facility and also throughout the summer we have regular group open water swims either in the sea or Llyn Padarn, Llanberis.

Our Events:

We  have a number of events that we organise, including the Llanrwst Sprint Triathlon, Porth Eirias Open Water Swim Series, The Black Goat Time Trial Series and for this year the 2016 Welsh Aquathlon Championships to be held at Porth Eirias, Colwyn Bay on Saturday July 23rd. We’d love to see a strong presence from South Wales at the Aquathlon Championships, we appreciate it’s a long way but we can promise golden beaches, blue salty water and a great event, although I won’t make any promises with the weather! To find out more, or to enter any of our events please visit our website at www.gogtriathlon.com

Throughout the winter we also have a Cross Country team that enters the North Wales League and we’ve found it a tremendous way of keeping team spirit and comradery going through the long dark winter. Of course you also need a strong social side, to keep team spirit high, as such we have regular social nights as well.

Community Support:

We’ve been very lucky as a club to receive terrific support from Conwy Borough Council and in particular the club’s training base the Llandudno Swim Centre, which has meant the club has had the facilities to flourish. We’ve also had great support from local business’, including The Great Orme Brewery who help us with prizes at our events as well as access to their bar for social events and Evolution Bikes Bangor who also sponsor our race series.

We believe that sport should be fun, inclusive, social whilst also providing the competitive element that makes so many of us buzz! The club itself hopes to provide a great platform for both athletes and coaches alike to express their talents in a friendly, positive environment.  A club isn’t just a collection of people, it’s a community, a community that can hopefully influence and change lives for the better, sport makes a difference!
