Matthew Wright

Age : 31

Coach : Luke Watson

Hometown : Christ Church, Barbados

Triathlon Background : I did my first triathlon at 8 years old, but was also playing football, cricket, surfing, golf etc at the time. Finally gave up the other sports to fully focus on track/triathlon at 16 and here we are.

Best result/s : 2023 Pan American Sprint Champion, bronze medallist at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, finished 2023 ranked in the top 50 of the World Triathlon rankings.

Favourite thing about Triathlon : it punishes complacency.

Best thing about training at the centre : 90% of the sessions are in a group environment alongside dedicated and talented athletes and staff. All you have to do is show up, and it feels like the rest is taken care of.

Favourite race : Kitzbuhel European Cup in Austria, and my hometown race when we had the Bridgetown Americas Cup (maybe biased)

Favourite session : 6 x 5 mins/1mile threshold with 1 min recovery on the run or a 1 hour threshold session on the bike with the boys on the open roads.

Non-Triathlon related fact : I once got a hole-in-one when I was 11 years old on a 165 yard par 3 at Rockley Golf Club in Barbados.
