100 Days to World Triathlon Para Series Swansea

Published:

Thursday 14 March marks 100 days to go until 2024 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea, which takes place on Saturday 22 June at the Prince of Wales Dock.

With more opportunities than ever for people to take part and racing happening months before the Paralympic Games, this year’s edition of World Triathlon Para Series Swansea is set to be bigger than ever. Swansea will be welcoming more people to the city as they take part, spectate and volunteer.

In 2023, British duo Claire Cashmore and Lauren Steadman shared the PTS5 Women’s podium with American Grace Norman, whilst the Men’s PTVI race also saw a British double as World Champion Dave Ellis (guided by Luke Pollard) and Oscar Kelly (guided by Charlie Harding) secured a one-two for GB.

Alongside the best paratriathletes in the world competing in one of their final opportunities to secure qualification points for the Paris Paralympic Games, Swansea will play host to a variety of amateur and development race options on Saturday 22 June.

There are four events for children aged 8-14 to enter, with each one starting and ending in the same place that the elites will later in the day. These are open to children both with and without disabilities and offer a mix of distances and a combination of timed and non-timed activities. All children are encouraged to have a go.

You can find out more about the opportunities available to enter here.

Also taking place on the day is the British Triathlon Paratri Super Series, bringing together established, developing and want-to-be paratriathletes. There are two strands, the first open to paratriathletes with a classification and the second for those without, enabling anyone aged 15+ with a physical or neurological impairment to take part.

With all this taking place in the morning, the afternoon will see the elite athletes take to the course in one of only four World Triathlon Para Series races in the annual calendar and the penultimate of the Paris qualification period.

This year’s event is sure to be a standout in the calendars of many athletes targeting Paris due to the points on offer, but also the opportunity to race their peers in Europe a matter of months before the Paralympic Games themselves.

More information about spectating at the event, including schedules, accessibility, and the wider entertainment on offer will be issued nearer the event day.

On top of the sporting action, there will be an event village with food, drink and activities on offer throughout the day, helping to make a visit to the docks one for everyone.

Ruth Daniels, CEO of British Triathlon, said of the countdown to 2024 World Triathlon Para Series Swansea: “This year has so much to offer with World Triathlon Para Series Swansea part of the road to Paris for so many athletes, coaches and fans.

“Being able to celebrate and count down to our event in 100 days’ time is an exciting milestone and I know residents, businesses and visitors to Swansea are in for a great day of sporting action on 22 June.

“The event is about more than just the elites however, and I’m really looking forward to watching the children’s activities as we see the joy that sport can bring, as well as witnessing the athletes who will represent GB in the future compete in the British Triathlon Paratri Super Series.”

Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration, events and tourism, said: “We look forward to welcoming thousands of athletes and supporters for this fantastic event.

“Swansea has a passion for sport and has a glorious natural environment for everybody to enjoy – and we’re excited that local people will be inspired to enjoy sport on June 22.

“The World Triathlon Para Series is a major boost to our local economy and we’ll make sure, once again, that local residents, businesses and organisations are fully informed about opportunities and road changes for the event’s big weekend.

“It’ll be another big summer of events for Swansea this year as the Ironman 70.3 Swansea is due to take place on July 14, the Wales Airshow is due to take place on July 6-7 and there are big-name concerts arranged for Singleton Park. There’ll be more big announcements to follow.
