Aberystwyth Junior Triathlon Sets up Conwy Finale

Published:

Despite the threat of rain, the weather was kind for the first ever staging of the Aberystwyth Junior Triathlon, with a cloudy but warm and dry day greeting the 136 competitors. A joint effort saw volunteers from ADASC, Cerist Triathlon Club and Aberystwyth Swim, Bike, Run come together to put on a great new event. As the penultimate race in the Welsh Triathlon TriStar Series 2018, there were top young triathletes from across Wales competing, but there was also a strong local presence with several first-timers and relay teams competing.

Race distances varied according to age group, with a pool swim in Plascrug leisure centre followed by a tough bike around Penweddig football fields and finally a run on the school athletic track. There were some superb performances and very intense battles for the honours! However, no matter their finishing position there was amazing effort shown by all on a very challenging course. There were lots of smiles on the finish line as the tired competitors collected their well-earned medals - well done to all!

The event was made possible thanks to strong support from Subway Aberystwyth, Byrne Scaffolding, Hennighan’s Chip Shop, Tesco Aberystwyth, Dwr Ty Nant, and Ceredigion Actif who awarded the race a Community Chest grant to help get it off the ground. Thank you all very much, and also to the staff at Plascrug leisure centre for their fantastic support on the day!
