With restrictions easing and confidence now growing across our domestic event organiser network, we are now able to announce the final event of the 2021 National Championship Programme.
The 2021 National Aquathlon Championship will take place at Whitmore Bay on Sunday 26th September at the SWYD Aqua. The swim will be a one lap 750m swim of Whitmore Bay, with a fast flat 5k run across Barry Island. Race Director Simon Webb stated “we’re delighted to be able to host the Aquathlon Championships for this year. We’re looking forward to a full field and seeing you all in September”.
The 2021 event was originally due to take place at the Monmouth Aquathlon on 4th July, but with the easing of restrictions being delayed, it was mutually agreed by both WT and the event organisers that it was better to reposition this year’s event to allow further ease of restrictions.
The opening of events will see a condensed summer and early autumn period for Welsh triathletes. The remaining five stages of the super series come thick and fast from July (Broadhaven), with events at Porthcawl Standard (August 8th), Bala Standard (5th Sept), Sandman Sprint (Sept 18th), ending on the beach at Barry with the SWYD Triathlon on October 3rd.
The Porthcawl Standard doubles up as the 2021 National Standard Championship on August 8th, whilst the Cross-Duathlon National Championships take place at Afan Argoed on November 27th. The National Sprint Championships will be facilitated at Llanelli, but this date has yet to be re-arranged at the time of press.
Tim Tri Cymru, will also be present at both Sprint and Standard Championships this year, with athletes able to go on and represent Wales at Age Group level at both the British Sprint and Standard Championships in 2022. Further details of this will be posted shortly.
